With more than 200,000 entries in 223 volumes it is a very important work for the Tibetan community. Its main objective is to help preserve Tibetan as a living language. The dictionary was launched by His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Main Tibetan Temple in Dharamsala on 27 May, 2022.
After the adjustment and cataloguing process, estimated to take about two weeks, the Tibetan donation will be placed in the Scholars´ Reading Room. As part of its reference library it will be available to the NL registered users. Véronique Firkusny-Callegari, who works as the executive director for an organization supporting young artists, is also a translator. In association with Elena Sokol she translated in English two books by Daniela Hodrová – A Kingdom of Souls (2015) and City of Torment (2021). Her translation of The Expulsion of Gerta Schnirch by Kateřina Tučková was published last year.
Rudolf Firkušný was born in Napajedla. As a „prodigy“ he studied music theory in Brno under Leoš Janáček while professor Růžena Kurzová taught him piano playing. He strated his career at the early age of eight with a public concert in Prague in 1920. Three years later, on 14 January 1923, he appeared as a piano soloist with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.

Masaryk´s scholarship made it possible for Firkušný to study abroad. Until the beginning of the Nazi occupation, he performed concerts in all European countries and played especially Czech music (Smetana, Dvořák, Janáček, Suk, Martinů). Apart from classical music, his repertoire also included contemporary compositions.
Rudolf Firkušný left his motherland in 1939 and except for several short stays, he lived abroad, mainly in the United States. After the World War II he returned in Czechoslovakia, but in 1948 he left to the United States again. After the fall of the communist regime in 1989, he repeatedly visited his home country, he gave concerts there and supported artistic and educational institutions.
Rudolf Firkušný died on 19 July 1994 in the United States. Since 2007, he has been buried together with his wife Taťána at the Honorary Burial Ground of the Central Cemetery in Brno.
Since 2013, Rudolf Firkušný Piano Festival has been held in November. It is organized by the Prague Spring Festival, with the beginning of which Rudolf Firkušný is also connected - his performance during the first year of the Prague Spring Festival in 1946 was the last in Czechoslovakia for the long forty-four years.

]]>It is a holiday full of colours, skeletons, dance, music and good mood. This tradition is so culturally rich and exceptional that UNESCO included it in the list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2008. Come and enjoy the Mexican Day of the Dead at the Klementinum Gallery. There will be a traditional flower altar, prepared are guided tours, and if you come with a themed make-up, you can also take part in the Miss Catrina election.
Visit the "Landscape of Levitation" in the Klementinum. The installation brings a piece of a world on the border between dream and reality, inhabited by beings that defy gravity. Its first form was created for the exhibition of the Capital City Gallery called Club as Shelter. Now it is being brought outdoors, into closer contact with the elements and the backdrop of the magical nighttime Klementinum.
The artist duo Tereza Bartůňková and Pavla Beranová work with intangible elements such as light, air and helium. The materials they choose are light and changeable – foils and fabrics with varying degrees of transparency. Water, fog and wind also play an important role, bringing a necessary element of unpredictability to the installation.
Jan Burian’s sound design combines everything into one harmonious whole. It follows the unknown language of levitating beings and the landscape as an entity and as such it oscillates between language and landscape. The installation Landscape of Levitation is a celebration of lightness.

English version of the publication, which focuses on the sheet music that was printed and published in 19th century Prague and constitutes part of the collection of the Music Department of the National Library of the Czech Republic. It opens up the specific issue of its production with several insights from different viewpoints. The introductory essay briefly introduces the collection of the Music Department of the National Library in which the music in question is housed and its origins. The chapter entitled The Musical Life of 19th Century Prague as Reflected in the Locally Published Sheet Music presents the music repertoire that can be found in the period sheet music in confrontation with the knowledge of music historiography, while the associated text reveals how some educated musicians and culturally aware individuals of the 19th century viewed the composition of the printed repertoire. The other chapters deal with bibliological aspects and endeavour to cast light on the secrets of the used music-printing techniques, which developed rapidly during the period in question based on a wide range of experiments. These chapters will also acquaint the reader with the individuals who created and distributed the local sheet music, i.e. Prague’s book merchants, publishers, engravers, lithographers and printers. The treatises have been supplemented with reproductions of the sheet music and references to specific pieces of printed music, usually presented with more detailed comments in the final section of the publication, i.e. the catalogue of the exhibited sheet music.
