Exhibitions organised by the Slavonic Library in 2019
Dušan Karpatský známý a neznámý Dušan Karpatský – Known and Unknown The exhibition unfolds the life and work of this exceptionally prolific author – Dušan Karpatský (1935–2017). It features not only his nearly 60-year long translation activities in the field of Slavic languages, but also his own works dedicated to literary history, dictionaries and bibliographies published in print. What is less known are his digressions into the world of theatre and his initiation and organisation of civic activities for the preservation of the integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This story of his life reflects the fate of an entire generation including, for instance, Václav Havel, Jiří Menzel, Jiří Gruša, Antonín Přidal, Jana Štroblová, Jan Zábrana and Jiří Pištora. The exhibition pays tribute to the craft of translation and to the ‘people behind the scenes’, who devoted their lives to bringing different languages and cultures closer together, to people who have contributed to the creation of something that has helped the Czech nation survive multiple times. The exhibition was organised by the Slavonic Library; its concept was created by Andreja Stojkovič. Date: 31 January – 16 March 2019 The invitation - Exhibition - preview - Exhibition - photo gallery |
