Among the most important works by Rome-based sculptor, engraver and publisher Domenico de Rossi (1659–1730) are three folio volumes of prints of Baroque palaces and churches in Rome. The copper engravings, made in collaboration with Italian architect and engraver Alessandro Specchi (1668–1729), not only depict the existing Roman architecture but also include some unexecuted plans by Bernini and Borromini. The first volume of the work Studio d'Archittetura civile presents a wide range of designs of windows, porticos and porches, doors and stairs in Roman palaces and churches. We can find in it, for example, drawings of architectural elements of Roman buildings by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Francesco Borromini, Antonio da Sangallo, Michelangelo Buonarroti, or Carlo Maderno. The architectural details come from the most important Roman palaces, like Palazzo Farnese, Palazzo Chighi, Palazzo Barberini, Palazzo Senatorio or St. Peter´s Basilica in the Vatican City.
The publication, which probably reflected architectural education, got a great response and influenced European architecture of the Baroque period.
