Printed music published in Prague in the 19th century
24 June - 31 July 2022
The display presents music publishing in Prague in the 19th century and its role in the then Prague music life. It features local publishers, engravers and lithographers, as well as the used printing techniques. Its name refers to the statement of Václav Jan Tomášek, one of the eminent Czech composers of the first half of the 19th century. The exhibition will take visitors through a century that is the most interesting and most dynamic period in terms of the almost six-hundred history of printed music.
Displayed are printed musical scores of compositions by both well-known composers and the unknown ones that were created by all printing techniques used at that period, many of them provided with unique graphic decoration.
The exhibition was prepared by the Music Department of the National Library of the CR on the occasion of the IAML Congress (The International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres), organized in Prague from 24 July to 29 July, 2022 in the National Library of the CR and the Municipal Library of Prague.
