THE BYGONE WORLD. Mácha´s region on old maps
8th Apríl – 6th June 2010
PROLONGED UNTIL 6th JUNE!


 The exhibition from the National Library´s collections is held on the occasion of the 200th birthday anniversary of the great Czech poet K. H. Mácha. It presents a changing map image of the region, defined by the cities of Česká Lípa, Bělá pod Bezdězem, Mělník and Úštěk. The cartographic products on display range from the first Dutch atlases of the 16th century, through Müller´s first detailed maps of Bohemia to Matouschek´s tourist maps from the period between the World War I and World War II. Speciál attention is paid to a collection of maps of the most important Czech cartographer of the 19th century, F. J. J. Kreibich. The core of the exhibition is formel by fifty historical maps that are accompanied by first tourist literature and works focused on relations between the poet and the region.

FROM RUSSIA TO RUSSIA. A long way home

The exhibition describes the activities of the Posev Publishing House in the period of freedom after 1989. It is organised by the Slavonic Library and Ruská tradice, o. s.

 Exhibition grounds of the Slavonic Library on the Third floor, Monday to Friday: 9 am - 7 pm, Saturday: 9 am - 2 pm.

A MIRACLE CALLED MÁCHA
“Far is my journey! – Calling in vain!!” Mácha´s May in the changes of time.
7th May – 3rd July 2010

An exhibition, organised by the Society of Writers, features different editions of May, a famous poem by Czech romantic writer K. H. Mácha. Displayed are works from the manuscript and first edition to the latest ones, including various language versions. It is interesting to compare different rendering of the poem in illustrations by eminent Czech artists, like M. Aleš, K. Svolinský, Toyen, J. Konopek, A. Strnadel, L. Jiřincová, C. Bouda, F. Komárek, J. Šerých, J. Zrzavý, V. Sivko, J. Velčovský, J. Souček, K. Štech, V. Oliva etc. The exhibits are maily from the collections of the National Library of the CR.
